for the ultimate in hoof protection
Old Mac's horse boots address a wide range of requirements in hoof care and horse
performance – from protection of hooves on rocky ground, to safer transportation and
safer stallion serving. Very often, they're a much better option than either metal
shoes or bare feet.
Producing a high quality horse boot like Old Mac's has only become possible with the
development of new, more rugged materials, such as Kevlar®, Nitrex® foam, DuPont's
Cordura® and Velcro®. David MacDonald, an experienced farrier and inventor of Old
Mac's, has taken full advantage of these materials to produce a boot that is robust, quick
and easy to fit and remove, safe for horse and rider –
and won't fall off during use.
After several years of successfully solving a range of
hoof issues, a new style of Old Mac's has been released –
the Generation Two – or G2 – boots.
-
The G2 has a new tread pattern that provides
aggressive traction while eliminating pressure on sensitive internal
hoof structures. While traction is extremely important, very aggressive
traction can inhibit a horse’s natural way of going, and can increase
stress on joints, tendons and upper extremities.
-
Another enhancement of the sole is the removal of the
point at the toe. The G2 tread is rounded for a natural breakover,
softening the miles and miles of riding you’ll do in your boots.
-
For horses whose hooves were too narrow to fit into
the Old Mac’s there is good news! The shape of the sole on the G2
is different from the original. The new shape is slightly longer
than wide, and will fit a greater percentage of horses' feet. This
is an important feature that will allow more horses to wear the boots
comfortably and without inserts.
-
Along with the new shape comes new sizing. You will
have to carefully measure and review the new charts in order to fit your
new boots.
-
By integrating the side flaps into the sole and
adding a front protective shield, Old Mac’s has made the G2 more stylish
and streamlined. The side flap integration narrows the boot, and reduces
the amount of bulk over the foot.
-
The new Front Protective Shield prevents wear at the
front of the boot.
-
The rear of the boot is now integrated into the sole.
This design change strengthens the rear of the boot and eliminates the
possibility of fitting the boot on a hoof that is too long. In
addition the rivets have been removed which could cause irritation to
the frog area.
"Like the human athlete, feet are the most important part of
man and horse alike. A horse's well being is directly related to its feet. Driving nails
into the hoof of a horse causes loss of conditioning to the hoof wall and potential trauma
to the horse. I knew there had to be a better way of protecting not only the hoof wall,
but also the entire hoof." David MacDonald, inventor of Old
Mac's Boots
Health problems addressed by the Old Mac's horse boot include:
- Brittle hooves
- Arthritis
- Ring bone
- Side bone
- Bruised soles and hoof walls
- Jarred shins
- Corns
- Laminitis
And, unlike some other horse boots, Old Mac's boots are easy to fit, don't fall off,
come in a broad range of sizes and are supported by many, many testimonials,
such as:
Ive used Old Macs on my 11-year-old champion
Polocrosse mare Centreline and in my duties as senior Club Steward on the
Clerk of the Course Horse. Horses being led around to the barrier tend to lean over
and stand on your horses feet. By using Old Macs it not only protects my
horses feet but also the horse I am leading. Perhaps all clerks should use Old
Macs.
While mustering, my horses have floundered up to their bellies in
swamps, swum in fresh and salt water Old Macs have NEVER come off.
My personal opinion is that Old Macs are one of the most
exciting innovations offered to the horse industry in my lifetime.
